How to Lose a Fat Stomach - 4 Foods to Avoid

It all sounds so simple - just eat less calories and exercise more. But you have probably found that losing weight is anything but simple. And there is a reason for this. Losing weight is hard. We start building our eating habits at a very early age, and some experts believe that these habits are set by age five! Think back to what you wanted to eat at five, and you will better understand why we prefer dessert and dread eating our vegetables. But beyond overcoming our poor eating habits, there is a lot of bad information out there that can cripple you as you attempt to lose weight. If you want to learn how to lose a fat stomach, you need to not only eat fewer calories, you need to eat the right things. And more importantly, not eat the wrong things. Below are four foods that you should avoid at all costs if you want to lose a fat stomach.

How to Lose a Fat Stomach Tip #1 - Fast Food is Bad!

Let's start with an obvious one. If you truly want to lose weight, you need to stay away from fast food. That Big Mac you just finished had 570 calories and 32 grams of fat. The large fries had another 500 calories and 25 grams of fat. And the large (32 oz.) chocolate shake? A cool and creamy 1,160 calories and 27 grams of fat. After that one meal you have eaten over your daily recommended calorie and fat levels. Even a southwest chicken salad with ranch dressing has 600 calories and 24 grams of fat. It does take planning ahead, but it is possible to cut out fast food. I very rarely eat fast food these days and it shows. This is the one thing that made the biggest impact on my own diet.

How to Lose a Fat Stomach Tip #2 - No Fat Free Foods!

This seems strange, that in order to lose fat, I am telling you to stay away from fat free foods. There are several reasons for this. First, when fat is removed from something, sugar is added in its place. More sugar equals more calories, more carbs, and less weight loss. A second reason is that psychologically, when people see that something is fat free, they figure that they can eat as much as they want. I have many friends who gorge themselves on fat free desserts thinking that it won't impact their diets since it is fat free. Surprisingly, they never seem to lose weight. A final reason, is that when fat is removed, chemicals are often added. I prefer to eat foods the way that God made them, not how science can recreate them. I find myself feeling much healthier when I eat natural as opposed to processed foods. I know that this is unscientific, but I am much more likely to eat healthy if it makes me feel healthy and energized.

How to Lose a Fat Stomach Tip #3 - Drop the Fruit Juice!

Another surprising food that will stop weight loss in its tracks is actually a drink - fruit juices. They seem healthy, especially those that claim to be 100% juice. The trouble with fruit juices is that it takes everything "bad" about a fruit (sugar, calories, and carbs) and strips out everything "good" about a fruit (fiber, feeling full). Juices are so bad for a diet because they are high (apple and orange juice have roughly 120 calories in 8 ounces compared to 100 calories in 8 ounces of Pepsi) in calories. Eat fruit instead and the fiber will not only help you to feel full (where juice will leave you craving further sweets), but will help to regulate healthy blood sugar levels.

How to Lose a Fat Stomach Tip #4 - Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup At All Costs!

This has been in the news recently, but it warrants repeating - stay away from high fructose corn syrup. Not only is it high in calories, research has found that consuming high fructose corn syrup causes your body to grow fat cells and contributes to the early onset of diabetes and heart disease. So not only will heeding this step help you to lose the stomach fat, it could help you to live longer as well!

Chapter 2

- This home movie is a wonderful example of fashion and decoration in the 1950's. Who didn't have a grandmother who had those plastic couch covers? It's an important part of pop culture history. One young man plays horse with his younger brother. Somersaults down the living room floor. Climbs up on the coffee table(in his oxford shoes) to play with his recorder. Then, it's time for jumping on the bed This looks like a trip to New York City's Rockefeller Center. I recognize the flags and the statue in front of the GE building. There is some beautiful footage of gardens- pick tulips and waterfalls. The FAO Schwartz building is in New York City. A horse drawn carriage rides through Central Park. There is great shopping in an outside market place, similar to the flea markets of today. Booths are full of clothes, picture frames, furniture, vases, and tons of people! St Mark's Majestic Men Stores, full of suits, sandals, and boots. There appears to be a English flag hanging in the window. The family visits a place called Jambargle which is a different kind of jewelery store. The city has many tall apartment buildings. Furniture is sold through a sidewalk sale. A trip to New York's pizza shops is a must. You can buy flowers from street vendors as well. The movie then shows footage of a passenger American Airlines airplane- both the outside of the plane and then footage of the airplane during take-off and flight. Some of the views out the window, looking over the clouds and water ...

In case you are thinking of giving your home a classic look, here are some home furnishing and interior design tips. In this Pottery Barn video, homeowner, Todd Cole, explains how he manages to give his home a simple yet classic look. Todd's house is known as the Prune Pot in Cloverdale, California. The house he owns was earlier a historic power plant that burned red wood, and used the water from the creek to create steam, which was used to generate electricity. Built between 1902 and 1903, it was utilized till 1925-30. The main area of the house has concrete floors and concrete walls. Todd has never renovated his house, as he plans to keep this historic building in its natural form. He loves this house because its interior design is extremely simple, classy and bold. The house is unique and has high ceilings, making it look spacious and has interior and exterior rooms as well. The exterior room has direct access to the kitchen and the drawing room which makes it very convenient. The rear garden behind the house is a lawn with a boxwood border. It is quiet place where you can spend time in peace and feel close to nature. Todd's favorite room is the big room, where his friends come over and play the piano. Church Lighting Fixtures

Traditionally, churches have used lighting designs that have scrollers with separate colors, which are attached to each other to create white light. These can also be adjusted to produce different colors, other than white. This type of lighting fixture does have many disadvantages. One of these disadvantages is the fact that they offer limited choices regarding colors. Another one is that these fixtures are very expensive to operate. Because of the many different disadvantages the lighting system had, many churches opted to switch to a much more updated form of lighting fixture. With the availability of new technology, they were able to implement a much more advanced form of lighting.

New Fixtures

Many churches today use lighting fixtures that produce very bright and intense lighting. This new lighting system is generally automated to be able to change colors at will. They have one function, and they accomplish their task rather well. They are designed to produce light, and change color, if needed, using a remote control.

Light Quality

The new lighting fixtures most churches use today have a far better light production capability than the old system they once used. Unlike the old system, the new lighting fixtures produce a high quality light, which will not have any contamination on the sides of other colors. The old lighting fixtures did not do this very well. In most cases, the edges of the light beam will have traces of different colors.

Cost

The cost of these systems is not small, however. The price for this type of fixture will cost about $1,500. The power supply will add an additional $1,200 to the overall price.

8 Tips For Decorating A Small Bedroom

When decorating a small bedroom then it makes sense wherever possible to conserve the floor space you have in order to make a cramped room feel larger than it really is. Below are some small bedroom decorating ideas which should help you to achieve the right result for such a small space.

1. If you do not have enough space in the room for small bedside table then why not place a wall mounted shelf next to the bed. It will have enough space on it to place an alarm clock, books, photos and other items which will personalize the space for you.

2. If you do not have the room for a bureau or closet then use under bed storage instead. They can either be made from inexpensive plastic or if you wish you can have some made to order from wood. But it is important that you have enough space beside the bed so that you can pull them out when you need access to them.

3. For those of you who want to watch a little TV before going to sleep then fit either a wall or ceiling mounted TV stand. You will be able to purchase one in any good DIY store or store that specializes in storage products.

4. The colours that you use on your walls in a small bedroom should be neutral tones and only 2 or 3 hues of this colour should be used in the room. It is important that you paint the moldings and doors in the room in the same colours as the walls by using contrasting colours you will be making the room feel smaller than it is. The ceilings should be painted white as they will provide a sense of height to the room.

5. The furniture for such a room should be clean lined and have small delicate patterns on it which will help to foster the illusion of space.

6. Open up the room by maximizing any views that it may have of the outdoors by using light fabrics or blinds at the windows.

7. Ensure that the room is well illuminated as this will also provide a sense of space in such a small room.

8. If you are able to add a mirror in a position opposite a natural form of light as this will help to provide further light into a room and therefore create the illusion of space.

Hopefully the small bedroom decorating ideas that have been provided above will help to create the haven of peace and tranquility that you are looking for in such a confined space.

Nutrition - What Has Changed on Your Plate in the Last 100 Years?

People around you are getting fatter than you think. You are not alone. Did you ever ask yourself why this is happening? Are you part of this relatively new trend or do you think something is going on? What has changed in the last generation to let this phenomena take over our lives? I dared to wonder what was happening to me and why. Is nutrition so important that we need to stop and say: wait a minute, something is wrong?

Nutrition-what has changed in your plate in the last 100 years is so important that you need to stop and listen.

  1. Why are we the only species on earth that cooks their food?

  2. What do we eat now compared to 100 years ago?

  3. Why are we getting fatter?

Eating food is the only way to stay alive. No species can survive without food.

  1. Why are we the only species that cooks food is not because we are the only ones that use heat. Many animals use heat to help their food be more digestible. Squirrel's only eat their raw nut when it has sprouted after being buried. Animals instinctively know when food is ready to be eaten. They do not use fire as we do, ever wondered why we do?

  2. We eat more processed foods now then we ever did 100 years ago and we are getting fatter and more obese by the minute. Something tells me I need to learn why? Eating raw foods has become an exception instead of a rule.

  3. Why are we getting fatter is mostly due to our ever changing lifestyle. Their is nothing wrong with the way we live as long as we take the time to feed ourselves better and take better care of our children.

Obesity comes from a lack of knowledge and poor example setting from our peers. We need to look at what other species do to lead a healthier and longer life than we do.

Eating raw fruits and vegetables is the best source of naturally grown foods that we have. I am really glad I decided to stop and listen and understand why I was getting fatter. You my friend need to do the same today.

Food for thought.

The Use of Glass in Architecture

Acclaimed architect Bruno Taut said, "If we want our culture to rise to a higher level, we are obligated for better or for worse, to change our architecture. And this only becomes possible if we take away the closed character from the rooms in which we live. We can only do that by introducing glass architecture, which lets in the light of the sun, the moon, and the stars".

A New Architectural Era

Built in Hyde Park, London to house the Great Exhibition in 1851 the Crystal Palace is commonly considered as a significant turning point in architectural history. This magnificent structure built from steel and glass paved the way for further exploration of glass as an architectural element. The glass sail of the new Milan trade fair and Louvre pyramid are other stunning example of the use of glass as a structural as well as a design element. Other examples of glass architecture include the London Bridge, Agbar and Federazija Towers as well as the Tokyo International Forum.

While the use of glass in construction was previously quite limited to grand designs and office buildings it is starting to become a core structural and design element in many homes. Glass facilitates natural light and opens up rooms allowing smaller spaces to look bigger as well as facilitating a natural indoor/outdoor flow which often enhances the tranquillity as well as the value of your home. Glass is also relatively inexpensive and fully recyclable, an important consideration in the current era of heightened environmental consciousness. Glass use in construction has increased dramatically due to the rapid changes in glass production and technology. Previously glass was thought to be quite a fragile building material and many steered away from it because of this. Modern glass, however, is not only spectacular to look through but it is safer, stronger and energy efficient.

Glass in the home

In the past glass was mainly utilized for windows to allow some air and light in to rooms. Today glass is utilized in the construction of several elements of exterior and interior architecture. Exterior glass architecture includes facades, display windows' skylights, skywalks, entrances, revolving doors, canopies, winter gardens and conservatories. All of which allow homes to be bathed in natural sunlight with gorgeous outdoor views. Interior glass architecture can be used for staircases, elevated walkways and even as traditional walls. There are some houses in which all of the walls are actually glass. Such high quantities of glass previously compromised other aspects such as the heating and cooling requirements. Often glass architecture would incur high heating costs in winter and cooling costs in summer. Fortunately such great progress has been made in the glass industry that we now have access a variety of different kinds of glass each with fantastic benefits. One such example is glass with spectrally-selective qualities, which allows light to stream into the house without being harmful or degenerative to occupants and their belongings.

Caring for your Glass

To keep your glass looking great and streak free you will need to ensure that it is cleaned often. Try a few different cleaning solutions before you decide which one to use, options vary from store bought to home made solutions. Many use products such as ammonia, vinegar, borax, alcohol or Epsom salts to clean glass. An important point to remember is that when using your own solutions never combine an acid and an alkaline, for example vinegar and ammonia, as they neutralise on another. After washing use a dry cotton towel rather than paper towels or newspaper as they tend to disintegrate and leave deposits on your glass. For a great shine a dry blackboard eraser can be used.

To keep frost from accumulating on exterior windows during the winter, add two cups of antifreeze or rubbing alcohol to each gallon of wash water. For deposits of paint, resin or glue wet the surface and then scrape them off using a razor blade scraper. Take care to scrape in one direction only in order to avoid scratching the surface.

Another option, and a fantastic one at that, is the breakthrough technology that has brought us self-cleaning glass. An ultra-thin coating is applied to the glass during the manufacturing process; this coating has two highly beneficial effects on the glass. First organic residue on the glass broken down by the ultraviolet wavelengths in sunlight then when it rains the dirt is washed off. As the coating is hydrophilic when rain hits the glass, it doesn't form droplets and in turn eradicates streaking. Rain water flows down the glass in a sheet and washes the dirt away. If you don't have time to wait for the rain a simple garden hose will be just as effective.
Self-cleaning glass is making the lives of homeowners far easier and is giving home owners absolutely no reason to hesitate to use of glass in the construction of their homes. What could be better than bright, open rooms with excellent outdoor views facilitated by huge sheets of glass, without having to spend your days cleaning them?

Modern day architectural trends have elevated the way we think about the use of glass in our own homes. It is no longer simply a material for windows and the occasional sliding door; it is a design component in its own right.

With each passing day glass becomes a more important element in architecture not only in grand public structures but also in the lives and homes of families across the world. The beauty of glass lies in its simplicity, it enables us to be enveloped by nature while living comfortably in doors.

The Top 10 Tiling Mistakes or How To Lay Tile Properly

Tiling is one of the popular home improvement do-it-yourself tasks, and many homeowners assume they can do it without much preparation. However, if you want a quality result right away, it is essential to pay attention to a number of important issues. Nothing says "do-it-yourselfer" louder than a make-do solution when tiling.

Here are 10 of the most common mistakes made during tile installation:

10) Not preparing the surfaces well enough

It is important to clean and smooth the surface which you will be laying tile on thoroughly. Trying to save time on this step can lead to an uneven and instable tiling. Any wallpaper or other foreign coatings should be removed prior to tiling.

9) Grouting unevenly or too quickly

Ideally you should spread the grout evenly and slowly, using a support tool like a squeegee. If you try to be too fast and grout a large area before laying tile, the grout on far-off spots may dry out before you actually get to tile. Distributing grout too hastily also is likely to lead to an uneven tiling result. Also, it is important to remove any excess grout immediately after laying tile, because it will be much harder to do once it has dried up.

8) Dotting corners

Some people believe that by adding dots of adhesive to the corners of tiles they achieve a stronger bond. However, by doing so you actually increases the chance of cracking because the adhesive shrinks as it dries. With the adhesive being thicker in some areas (for instance in the corners), the shrinking will add pressure on the tile.

7) Choosing the wrong adhesive

This is particularly important for laying tile in humid rooms like bathrooms and swimming pools. In such cases waterproof adhesive is a must. Even well-fitted tiles can let some water through to the adhesive, which eventually calles crumbling and breaking with non-waterproof adhesives.

6) Not using battens

Optimally you should use battens (thin rods of wood, alternatively any other long straight object) both in horizontal and vertical directions to lay tiles in possibly straight lines. Trying to lay tile without such a helper tool will often result in positioning mistakes and a generally bad look of the tiled surface.

5) Not discovering and fixing mistakes quickly enough

A rare first-time tiling job gets done flawlessly right away. Most likely, you will have a few awkward spots here and there. It is important to have a fresh eye look over your tiling result shortly after you are done, ideally within the first 6-12 hours. The faster you spot problems, the easier it is to fix them. A misplaced tile 24+ hours after you're done can be quite difficult to fix since the grout will already have hardened.

4) Not removing excess grout accurately

One of the most common signs of an amateur tiling, protruding grout is something that is easy to fix.

3) Miscalculations with the number of tiles needed

Some first-time tilers will just buy exactly the number of tiles to cover the area they want to tile. However, in practice, you should get 5%-10% more tiles than the minimum to insure yourself against breakages, miscalculations and difficulties cutting to size. This also gives you some spare tiles to replace cracked ones in future.

2) Failing to seal bath tops properly

If the gap between the bottom row of tiles and the bath top is not sealed properly, water may leak into it as it runs down the tiles. Usually it is recommended to fill the bath before using the sealant, since baths can move significantly when filled with water, which can strain and crack sealant if it is not anticipated.

1) Insufficient or erroneous planning

This is probably the most important mistake, and also the one which is easiest to avoid. Instead of going for a make-do solution, always be sure to measure out the surface you need to tile carefully. Be aware that installing curved tile is significantly more difficult than tiling a flat wall. Plan for at least 10-15% waste and spare tiles for future replacements. Try to keep it simple. Cutting tile can be frustrating and expensive, so the fewer cuts you make, the less expensive your project is.

Don't hesitate to read up materials purchase some of the inexpensive video lessons (for instance the ones available at http://www.tilehowto.com). For a larger project, perhaps even arrange a brief designer consultation - an experienced eye can often discern problems that might cost you hundreds to fix afterwards.

The Sims 3 - Building a House 9 - Life's A Beach House - Part 3 - Interior

The link to download this house is over here: www.thesims3.com As a few people guessed correctly, I was to build a beach house. And build a beach house I did! However, it was supposed to be an actually fully fledged house but based on the complexities and lot size restricitions, I downgraded to a holiday house. :D I also decided on "experimenting" with colour with each section of the house a different one, I personally like the Blue the most. I forgot to allow sound to be recorded so I had to use music from previous sims, brings back lovely memories! As I said in previous videos I'm getting repetitive with furniture sets and styles, particularly the wood thing. Get used to it until the next pack comes out, and I refuse to spend copious amounts of money in the store (although the Ultra Lounge set is verrrrrry tempting) I tried to make a lowered living room but there wasn't enough space to fit it all in so I'll do it next hosue The house took 2 hours and 3 minutes to build and furnish. It costs $72 000 furnished and $52 000 unfurnished. Enjoy!!!

Photo Montage (or Slideshow) Tips and Ideas

If you're anything like me, you've got old photos in boxes, scattered pictures in various scrapbooks or albums, a computer hard drive with photos saved in places you don't even remember, maybe even some undeveloped film (who knows what could be on there!). If you're looking for something to do with all of it, why not make a photo slideshow on DVD replete with music and specials effects? It is a great way to keep a permanent record of all those photos as DVDs can last up to 100 years. There are plenty of companies that will perform that service for you (including the author's) or you can do it yourself. If you want to do it yourself, here are some ideas to help you out.

Know Your Audience

The most important aspect in creating any photo montage is in knowing your audience. Ultimately, what you are doing with your montage is telling a story. To tell it effectively, you have to know who you are telling it to. The audience will play a large part in how many pictures you want to include, the type of music you want, and the length of the presentation. Here are a few specific ideas:

* If you plan on showing your montage to a larger audience (like a birthday, wedding reception/rehearsal dinner, or anniversary party) make sure you consider how you are going to present it. Is your slideshow going to be a backdrop for the party or is there going to be a time to sit down where everyone will gather to watch? If it is a backdrop, you probably want to use more pictures. That way, people can watch parts as they please, mingle, and then come back to watch different parts as the party moves on. If your montage is going to be displayed with the expectation that most people will stop what they are doing to watch, keep your presentation limited to about 4 songs (about 125 to 175 photos). This is a good length to create some nice emotions yet short enough that it will not interrupt the event.

* If you plan on showing your slideshow to a small and intimate audience, the best bet is to make it short and sweet. One to two personal songs with about 75 photographs makes a great surprise gift.

The Importance Of Order

There are a variety of approaches you can take in ordering your photographs (thematically, chronologically, etc). What usually has the best flow is a chronological order. Chronological order allows you to encapsulate all facets of a person's life in a way that everyone will understand. It also creates a great nostalgia effect early on which will grab your audience's attention right away.

Music

Generically speaking, songs with lyrics are best. Since the majority of your DVD will be pictures, having lyrics really helps to attach the photos to the music. If a particular lyric matches up to what is going on in a particular photo that is even better.

As to musical genre, that is a matter of personal taste. From experience, though, a mix is usually the most powerful. If you are making an upbeat, light-hearted presentation, then matching music is appropriate. If you are looking for something engaging and emotional, then think of your presentation like it is a great movie. You want a lighter side, a dramatic part, and a great ending. Depending on the number of photos you have, probably one or two up-tempo songs, one or two slower songs, and then the homerun song for the end.

When picking specific songs, it is a good idea to think beyond the more common popular songs. What is the person's favorite song? How about a song from their childhood? Maybe one version of a song works better than another (like acoustic versus electric)? There is an amazing amount of music available online; it is a good idea to explore. You will know when you see it in your presentation if it really fits.

Photo Quality

A big issue related to creating a photo montage is photo editing. There is plenty of software that can clean up cracks, fix lighting, adjust color, remove spots, etc.; some works better than others (check out http://www.cnet.com for product reviews). The one problem no software can fix, though, is a grainy photo. Unfortunately, an out-of-focus photograph is going to remain an out-of-focus picture in your slideshow. When you are selecting the photos are going to include, you should choose the clearest ones you have. Keep in mind that your slideshow may have lots of transitions, backgrounds, pan and zooms, etc. so you want photos with a focal point that is as clean as possible. Clean photos help keep the flow of the presentation.

Video

A good way to add some flair to your montage is to add video. If you can find and isolate some good video clips, they add a great touch. If you do decide to add video, don't make the clips too long. Remember, you have a story to tell and need to keep it moving. Keep the clip down to about thirty seconds and consider using video as a break point between "chapters" or songs.

Narrate It

Another great touch is to use personal voice recordings in your slideshow. If your presentation is a gift, hearing your voice makes it that much more personal (and memorable). Voice recording can be done on most home computers. Turn on the microphone and go for it!

Quotes and Poems

If you are really looking to create an emotional montage, use photo captions. They can be personal quotes, famous quotes, short poems, etc. Whatever your preference, a good quote can help to convey the true meaning behind a certain photo or draw out deep emotions.

Personalize It

What makes any gift special? The thought of course -- especially the thought that comes from you. Since that is the case, some piece of personalization, however small, is critical. Think of it as your signature on a painting. Whether it is a song, a caption, or even a certain photo make sure to make it your own.

The End

Sometimes one of the best parts of a movie is the highlight reel at the end (think "Build Me Up, Buttercup" at the end of There's Something About Mary). If you can come up with your own "bloopers reel," it would be an excellent finishing touch to your slideshow.

Back-Up Plan

Once all of your pictures have been scanned, catalogued, and you are ready to start on your montage, don't forget to create a file with just your originals in case you need to go back to them for some reason. It is a good idea to also create a separate folder with your edited photos. That way you have copies of both for a "Doomsday scenario." This also provides you a way to preserve all your print photos which can degrade over time (cracking, turning yellow, etc).

Hopefully, these ideas are helpful to you. Creating a photo slideshow is a lot of work but it always turns out to be worth it in the end.

How To Make A Room Divider

A room divider in a theme that compliments your décor can add a unique look to the corner of your room while doubling as a screen to hide a messy area or provide extra storage in the back. A decent room divider can be quite costly, but if you consider yourself to be handy with tools, then you might be able to save a bundle while making a nice custom accent piece for your room.

When deciding on making a room divider, you must first pick out which kind you want to make. There's 3 basic types of dividers - the folding screen, the flat panel and the hanging curtain.

The folding screen style of room divider typically has 3 or 4 panels, but you can build it with as many as you want. It stands on it's own when the panels are set at slight angles. To build this type of room divider, you simply make panel frames out of wood - you can build them to any size that suits. Then add the inside panels - insides can be glass, fabric, stained wood, painted wood or anything else that suits your fancy! Finally, assemble each panel to the other with hinges so that each piece folds against the other.

The room divider that is one panel and has feet that hold it up is the easiest to build. Just build the panel frame from wood and put whatever material you want in the middle. Then add some feet on the bottom to hold it up. You may be able to get pre-made feet for it or you can simply build them yourself. Make sure the feet are long enough so that the divider is sturdy when standing.

If you want to build a fabric or beaded divider, you will have to use something to suspend it from the ceiling. A track is nice because then you can slide the divider back if you want to expose the sections of the room. Something like a curtain rod could work, if you can rig something up that doesn't look strange. Then simply add the curtain or bead panel. You can even use a store bought curtain or make one yourself.
