Communal Living For the Aging Boomers?

Let's admit it, we Boomers aren't getting any younger. We are thinking more about our future - what we want, how we will pay for it, and who will be with us to take care of things we are no longer able to do.

As we became young adults in the 60s and 70s, communal living was considered a fad, but for some of us it worked. Some of us are now pretty much "aging orphans." By that I mean we chose not to be married, chose not to have kids, our parents have passed, and we may or may not get along with our siblings (assuming we have them). As we progress along life's journey, we are starting to think about loneliness and isolation - two things that can have a major impact on our quality of life.

Assisted Living for All?

Is assisted living the answer for all of us? I don't think so. If given the choice, we would all much prefer to remain in our own comfortable and familiar home, but that may not be possible or realistic for some. So what are the alternatives? Perhaps communal living will make its way back in a modified form. Why not homes where each individual, or couple, had their own bedroom, sitting room and bathroom - a place where they could find peace and quiet when desired - but the kitchen, living and dining areas, laundry and such would be open to all? When you stop to consider the possibilities, this isn't such a bad concept, is it?

We could build a guest house, or a slightly separate area of the main building, that would be set aside for a caregiver couple. They would be hired by us to do those things we are no longer able to do or don't want to do. As residents of this home, we would each have the responsibility for maintaining our separate space, and for contributing to meals and other chores necessary to a functioning household.

When the time came that we were no longer able to maintain a modicum of self-sufficiency, choices would have to be made - by all residents of the household. Do we age in place (i.e. leave this world in our own beds), or do we relocate to a place where care appropriate to our needs is available?

These are not easy things to think about, but isn't it much better to at least consider the possibilities prior to having to make a quick decision? All too often, we fail to plan for our own welfare, and all too often we are quick to complain about our decision after the fact. Let's start planning for tomorrow, while we can think with a clear mind today.

Come on, Boomers. We do have choices, options, and decisions to make. Let's not wait until someone else has to make them for us. Let's start putting our plans into action and test the waters of a new design from an old concept of lifestyle. Whatever we choose, it's a sure-fire guarantee that most of us Boomers are going to find a way to make old age "cool."

The Ultimate Guy Living Room

While generalizing is something that isn't recommended most of the time, it is fair to say we can please most, if not all, of an entire gender with our living room design. The ultimate guy living room is one of absolute class, style, and technology. Most men do not like to be without a big screen T.V. on game day, just as they wouldn't want a living room design to not come with a table for their snacks. This article is dedicated to the ultimate guy living room.

Why wait, let's get to the most important element of any men's room, the T.V. Not just any T.V. will do for the ultimate guy living room; therefore we must give it some parameters. The T.V. in the ultimate guy living room is at least 50 inches big, and comes flat as a wall. Think LCD, or Plasma, or both! This living room design is meant for the most serious fan.

One common complaint amongst men is the breakability of most furniture, thus our room comes stocked with one large industrial steel table. If you have trouble imagining this element of the ultimate guy living room, think about a warehouse, or factory, during the industrial age, and think of the heavy duty tables that were used to work on. For our living room we'd take a table right out of the factory, and do nothing to it, but wipe the dust off of it.

Next, the ultimate guy living room must include a plethora of ultra comfortable sofas. Each sofa would be in a dark color, thus not to run into staining issues, and come with steel nail reinforced covering for those times when the couch gets tossed around like laundry in a spin cycle.

Finally, the ultimate guy living room would come stocked with wooden bookshelves, and an open canvas art that helped to accent the masculine nature of the room. Books would need to have some dense binding to them as they would be stacked sparingly on the shelves, and the art would be modern, but not over the top.

For those that want the ultimate guy living room, simply follow the above plan, and enjoy. There will be countless guys that come over, and compliment you on the coolness of your room. Simply interpret that as a pat on the back for a living room design well done.

Watch One Night in Paris because it could be a film like no other to you. Something like this can only be good in the eyes of those who personally handpick such great work out of one's own personal taste. The title alone shows how it could carry its plot around the culture and lifestyle of France and use the facts of reality as the significant elements to a show that not only entertains but touches its viewers as well in the way that the artist who produced it intended to do so in the first place.

But perhaps this matter must be left in the hands, or eyes, of the one who will watch One Night in Paris. After all, the taste of one's viewing pastime is not developed out of a strict standard that is similar to everyone. Some would, with the likeliness that would be definite, appreciate the film because of its setting. It's Paris, after all, who wouldn't enjoy that? Living Your Authentic Values - A Life Coaching Success Story

Have you ever felt that your life is a juggling act? Maybe you're trying to live up to expectations that aren't AUTHENTIC to who YOU are.

According to Cecile Andrews, author of 'The Circle of Simplicity', "People in this culture aren't having fun". I've certainly seen this phenomenon in my life coaching practice and in my own life. We too often look for quantity rather than quality...and in the process, we have evolved into a society that doesn't know how to slow down and LIVE.

When you wake up in the morning, do you smile and hum a happy tune? Or do you wonder how in the world you're going to get everything done that should get done today? Does life feel like an exciting adventure, or do you dream of a magical "someday" when your real life will begin, and you'll finally be able to do the things you love?

What I do is help people create a life that really matters. Let me share a client's story with you (all names and identifying details have been altered to protect his privacy). Steven had been an accountant since he got his MBA in 1978. He always worked hard and became the youngest member of his firm ever to make partner. Steven is also a father and an avid pianist and bass player. In his heart, he would much rather spend his time chauffeuring his two pre-teen boys to their activities and making music than preparing tax returns. When I asked Steven how he spends his free time, he just laughed and said, "I don't even remember what free time is any more! Doc, I'm successful, but I'm just not happy."

It was clearly time to make a change. I asked Steven to make a long list of what was important to him. He took a week to work on this list. I also had Steven write a mock acceptance speech for an award that would be bestowed upon him IF HE WERE LIVING IN HARMONY WITH HIS CORE VALUES. Although his job as an accountant was on his list of important accomplishments, Steven placed this well towards the end of his speech.

Steven's top two values turned out to be spending time with his family and contributing to his community. He was actually surprised when he found himself musing about going to church with his wife Liz and the boys. With two young children to educate, money was important, but it didn't rank as highly as he had assumed it would.

Steven asked Liz to make a list of her core values too. The two of them then sat down with their lists and had a series of serious conversations in which they decided together that outside of tax season, Steven would cut his work week back to just enough time for him to keep his benefits. They also decided that the boys were old enough for Liz to take a part time job. She had been a successful math teacher after college and decided to consult with their local middle school to tutor gifted students in math and science. Her pay would make up enough of Steven's loss in salary for the family to continue to pay bills and put a little money into a college fund for the boys each month. The family committed to going to church together at least once a month. They also chose as a family to devote a couple of hours a month to visiting a local retirement home, where Steven plays the piano for the residents while Liz and the boys visit. To save on food expenses, Steven and Liz now enjoy their new hobby...cooking gourmet food at home...rather than going out to eat as often as they once did, and the boys pitch in with chores so the family can save some money by not hiring a weekly housekeeper and gardener.

The full transition took about two years, but both Steven and Liz agree that, despite having less money, they are much happier. They have also noticed that the boys, now ages eleven and fourteen, are doing better in school, have become much more eager to help out at home, and enjoy doing community service projects.

Here is a Coaching exercise that you can do to explore YOUR AUTHENTIC core values. Take stock of your life. Set aside some time (about fifteen minutes should do), and write down ten things that you value. Examples may be: challenging work, family, friends, nature, money, etc. When your list is done, put a number from 1 to 10 next to each item to rank each one in importance to you. Next, put down a number from 1 to 100 next to each item to show what percentage of your time is devoted to each one. Are you allotting your time in a way you really value? What would it mean for you to live in accordance with your authentic core values?

Living Cheap

Does living cheap mean being miserable, or giving up what you want? Not at all. In my own case, it meant getting the things I really wanted. Spend less on each thing or activity, and you can have more of them, right? The key is to spend less and still get what you need and want. I'll tell you how I managed it.

Living Cheap - Housing

The first house I owned was a mobile home on a small lot. I paid less than $20,000, and had payments of $257 per month. With taxes, insurance and repairs, it still cost less than rent. With three bedrooms, an expanded living room, and a nice fenced-in yard, it was very comfortable. Eventually I sold it for $45,000.

Two things that I did made it even cheaper. First, I paid down the mortgage as much as I could when I was working. Within five years I owed nothing, and from that point on it cost an average of $300 per month to pay for the utilities, phone, garbage collection, taxes, insurance, and repairs. This is living cheap.

It became even cheaper when I found that I could easily rent the other two bedrooms. I got $65 per week for one, and $75 or more per week for the other, and I included all utilities. I found decent young guys to rent to, and the rents added up to $600 per month, making this more than cheap living, and even better than free housing. I was making $300 per month AND living for free.

Living Cheap - Think And Plan

With lower expenses I could work less, so I could get by without a car. This saved even more money. An occasional bus fare, and the used bicycle I bought didn't add up to a fourth of what it cost to have a car. I needed to plan my trips around town a little better, but it was worth it.

Until I was almost 40, I never paid more than $40 for a piece of furniture. You have to know what is important to you. I DID pay $220 for a high-tech sleeping bag, because ultralight backpacking was important to me. On the other hand, since I couldn't tell the difference between a nice, clean used couch for $30 and one that cost $900, I bought the former.

I found that when I worked less, I had time to more carefully consider my options. Time can save a lot of money. I paid half of what others paid for groceries, and when I did get a car, I found a repossessed one worth much more than what I paid. When I went to Ecuador for a month, it cost $1,040, including airfare, hotels, meals, a guided climb up a 21,000-foot mountain - everything. It was possible because I had time to search for the deals.

I never cared much for jobs, and I worked only part-time for years. I played chess, wrote poetry, and read good books. I traveled several times a year. I met the love of my life in South America (happily married for almost 5 years now). This was all possible not because I made a lot of money, but because I spent less than I made, and used the difference for the things that mattered to me.

This article isn't meant as a how-to guide. I explain how I traveled and bought things so cheaply in many other articles. This is simply to get you thinking about the possibilities, and to point out some principles. What are the principles? Find ways to pay less without getting less. Don't buy things you don't need. Spend a less time working and more time thinking. Stay out of debt. Finally, know what is truly important to you, because this is what you can have more of by living cheap.

10) Great Room - Very popular now for easier living -- one great room for everything eliminating separate formal living and dining rooms -- entertainment, studying, relaxing, and living. Kitchens open onto these rooms.

Observe how you do everyday things such as doing laundry or disposing of trash, and plan a path that is the easiest. Living differently in retirement, you will require a different kind of floor plan than you have had before--one that functions well and makes your life easier.

Buying Used Rolex Watches - Have I Bought A Fake Rolex Watch?

I confess to being addicted to buying used Rolex watches, it is through experience both good and bad that I have been able to distinguish between a genuine and a fake watch. I would like to share my findings with you so you can avoid the many pitfalls when buying a used Rolex watch.

The Rolex watch due to the virtue of its desirability and exclusivity unfortunately makes it a prime target for the unscrupulous counterfeiters. Over the years the quality of the conterfeit watches as improved dramatically so much so that it is very hard to tell the two apart.

How do I know if my used watch is a fake?

Well let me give you some pointers it is basically all in the fine detail.

1. All Rolex watches have an individual reference number which is engraved between the casing lugs at the 12 o'clock position, this number relates to the manufacturers year and model.

2. All genuine Rolex have a screw on watch case.The watch case is made from 14 or 18K gold or silver but never of a cheap plated metal be it gold or silver plate.

3. Genuine Rolex watches do not have a clear or see through watch case so that the internals are visible. Don't let it fool you if you can see the internal mechanisms with Rolex crowns imprinted on the parts. Clear case = not genuine.

4. If your watch is marked made in China stay well clear (54% of all counterfeit watches have been seized in China).

5. Apart from one model of watch the Sea Dweller all others do not have any engravings of any kind on the watch case.

6. One particular area in which the counterfeiters fail is in the reproduction of the engraved crown, which is directly below the 6 o'clock position on the watch face. The fake tends to have a somewhat larger crown which when magnified shows imperfections in the lines compared to the very small (only just visible with the naked eye) original crown marking on a genuine item.

7. The genuine watch has a Cyclops bubble directly over the date display, which magnifies the date by 2.5 times. In the vast majority of fakes the Cyclops bubble is not centralised correctly and the magnification effect is not up to scratch.

8. On the back of a genuine watch there is a hologram of the crown above the serial number. When the hologram of the crown is observed from various angles it reflects light to give an holistic effect. The hologram of the crown on a fake does not give this reflection effect when observed at varying angles.

9. The second hand movement in a used is perfectly smooth and faultless in operation whereas with the fake the movement is generally jerky and irregular.

This is by no means a complete list due to the ever changing technology utilised by the counterfeiters but I hope these tips will certainly help you in distinguishing if your used Rolex watches are genuine or if you have bought fake.

Positive Living Through Positive Thinking

Do you yearn to live a fulfilled life? Do you feel like life has thrown you a curve ball? We all have answered yes to either one of these questions at some point in our lives. Some of us may still be answering yes to one or maybe both of those questions. The good news is you can live a fulfilled life. You can still bat a home-run with a curve ball thrown at you. There is a popular saying that goes like this, "when life gives you lemon make lemonade." That is exactly what you do and more by living a positive life through positive thinking.

You may ask, what is positive thinking? It is simply a mindset. That means, you will always find the good in every situation. No matter what is happening to you, you remain optimistic and know that all is well. Remember, as long as there is life, there is hope. I am sure you have come across people who always have a smile no matter what. Then, there are others who always seem so grouchy. I know you don't have to think twice about which one you prefer to be around. Here is the key, this is where positive thinking comes into play. The person who always says I have no money is constantly broke. The person who believes their needs will be supplied, always gets their needs met.

The fact is not about what we go through but our attitudes and thoughts about what we are going through. We must have a positive mental attitude in order to live a fulfilled life. We cannot be successful in life with a negative attitude. Negative attitude draws negative situations and failures into our lives. On the other hand, positive attitudes bring prosperity into our lives. People prefer to help people with a positive attitude. Here are seven keys to living a positive life through positive thinking:

1. Get rid of old baggage

Free your mind from what happened in the past. Star living in the here and now. You cannot change the past and harboring ill feelings only keeps you stuck in a rut. You are unable to live a successful, fulfilled life because your baggage is weighing you down. Lighten the load; you may even lose some weight by doing that. Your mind must be free of worry or grudges in order to cultivate positive thoughts.

2. Positive Self-Talk

Most of us grew up in families where negative self-talk was the norm. You always talk bad about yourself even in joking with friends. Stop it now. Your subconscious mind believes everything that you say. Therefore, you will always do negative things to sabotage your success because that is all you program yourself to do on a daily basis. Start by looking in the mirror and telling yourself that you are somebody. You deserve to be successful. You are capable of doing, being and creating whatever you want. Whenever, a negative thought pops up in your head say, "thank you for sharing." Then, replace it immediately with a positive loving thought about your self. You will find that you start feeling good about yourself and then the possibilities are endless.

3. Stop complaining

Do you realize that the more you complain the worst the situation gets. That is because you are putting out negative energy. Whatever you put out is what you get. You know that what is sown is the exact thing that is reaped. You cannot plant apple seeds and expect to reap oranges. It doesn't work. The same law applies to our lives. Instead of complaining, thank God for allowing you to see that this is a temporary situation that you are passing through. You know that you will be stronger in the end. Whatever you focus on the most is what you create in your life. Therefore, focus on joy and peace you will find that no matter what happens, you will be quite calm. The journey through the particular situation is quicker and easier. I know, I am speaking from experience.

4. Be Thankful

Be thankful for everything, good and bad. Live every moment in a state of gratitude. I have heard many people say that everyone should be grateful for their bills. Yes, that's right. Obviously, you are enjoying the convenience of many things, including a roof over your head and food on the table. The bills are a sign that you have several things to be grateful for. You are much better off than some people. Think about the homeless people, they would love to have a place of their own and some bills. Here is another thought, your creditors believe in your ability to pay your bills. That is why they send you a monthly statement. Be grateful that you are able to pay your bills. Even if you are saying I can't pay my bills, be grateful and a way will appear. Once you are totally consumed in being thankful every moment of you life, you will see a shift in your life. You will begin to live in the abundance that is rightfully yours.

5. Be Accountable

Everyone needs someone who will help them to stay on track. It could be a coach, a mentor or even a family member. You should choose someone who is not afraid to tell you that you are out of line. Let the person know that you are working on living a positive life. You would appreciate being told of any negative thing that you may say or do. It is okay if you slip up. Don't beat up yourself. Simply, be grateful that you recognize the misstep and turn it in a positive step. You should have a regular session with that person to discuss the challenges and success that you have encountered while traveling the positive thinking path. It could be weekly or monthly; whatever is convenient for both of you. You will find that you growth is faster because you have someone cheering you on.

6. Affirmations

Start the practice of using daily affirmations to increase your self awareness. You need to start the day with a positive statement. So that no matter what happens during the day you can refer back to your affirmation to keep your thoughts positive. At the end of the day you should give thanks for yet another successful day. Even if you feel like a lot of things went wrong, you must still give thanks for remaining positive. You will find that doing this continuously will make it a part of you such that you will do it automatically each day.

7. Associations

How many times have you heard the statement, "show me your friends and I will tell you who you are"? Well, that statement is true throughout the ages. You are who you associate with. Your income, your mindset and your success will be on the same level as your associates. Therefore, you must associate with positive minded people in order to be positive. You need people around you who will support you in your efforts to live a positive lifestyle. The more you associate with positive successful people, the closer you get to your goal of having a totally positive mindset.

Once you follow these seven steps on a daily basis, you will develop a positive mindset. You will grow stronger mentally and you will set the stage for massive success in your life. You may even be an example to someone else who wants to change their lifestyle to one of positive living. Positive thinking definitely guarantees positive living and life of success. It is time to change you mindset.

Real Hublot Watches - How to Spot a Knock-off of Hublot Watches

It is sometimes very difficult to tell original Hublot watches from replica watches, or a knock-off. To complicate matters, some Hublot replicas are high end replicas while others are very cheap. While high end replicas might still not be high end in quality like real Hublot watches would be, they are called high end because they have a higher asking price than the cheap replicas, and because they have a higher level of visual imitation.

Cheap replicas are easier to distinguish from real Hublots than the high-end replicas. The first place to look to distinguish a cheap replica is the wristband. Usually, a cheap replica will be completely missing the signature Hublot texturing on the wristband as well as the two recessed strips that come on a real Hublot wristband. Cheap replicas usually have entirely smooth wristbands, and you may also see some stitching on the replica watchband, which true Hublot watches do not use.

The second place to check is the screws on the watch. Hublot watches have signature "H" screws. Cheap replicas will have a regular screw.

Materials Used To Make Watches

Many of today's watch manufacturers offer their timepieces in a choice of case metals. The three most common alloys used are high-grade stainless steel, eighteen Karat gold and platinum.

Stainless steel

7 Most Logical Reasons To Get Up To 100mpg

I have friends in the UK who recently passed on some information to me.

They were sharing with me how much they have to pay for gas at the pump, wait for it, gas is well over $11.00 per gallon and diesel, which a great number of their cars run on is currently well over $12.00 per gallon!

It makes you wonder just how high the prices will go on gas prices in North America. Could we follow suit? Where will these escalating gas prices end up? Every week they seem to rising ever higher and higher, and every time they rise, little by little it's eating a bigger and bigger hole in not just my finances but your finances too.

Consider this, if you drive a car, any car or truck, whatever and it does 20mpg, now think about all those little journey's you do every week, how many miles a week do all of those journey's, those errands add up to? Then ask yourself how much all of these journey's and/or errands were costing you 12 months ago, 6 months ago, 3 months ago, 1 month ago and little by little you have no doubt seen a pattern emerging as each passing month has been eating quietly into your overall finances.

How many cars do you own in your family? One? Two? Three or more? Just how much are all of these journey's costing you month on month?

Are you getting worried about keeping up with your bills, or your mortgage payments? Are you planning ahead? Have you worked out yet that in 6 months from now, if things carry on the way they are, that these escalating gas prices will be putting on your shoulders ever more extra worry as you struggle to meet all of your financial commitments? It's worrying isn't it?

What are You going to do about? Are you going to sweep the problem under the carpet, hoping that the problem will go away, or are you going to take some sensible action now, to start seriously saving some money and making your dollar work for you, whilst you still have a chance to do so?

Ask yourself this question. If there was a way to getting up to 100mpg, wouldn't it be prudent right now to start seriously considering such an option?

I'm not suggesting that I can save you money left right and center, but just thinking about all those little journeys and errands, well, the miles soon add up don't they? For example, let's pick a figure out of thin air. How about 200 miles per week, does this sound reasonable? Now divide 200 miles weekly by 20mpg, that's 10 gallons of gas per week and then times this by the amount that you are paying at the pump for your gas in your area. This will give you, on just one vehicle your weekly spend, outlay on gas that you are paying. If you have two cars, you can double this etc. Then times the figure by 4 weeks to get your monthly spend. It's quite a bit isn't it?

So, how does one get up to 100mpg, thereby at the end of the month saving yourselves a considerable amount of money that could be put towards much more important things?

Now, ok, I/we realize that this solution is not for everyone, but for a lot of you, surely it is worth seriously looking at and considering, especially now that the summer months are upon us with plenty of fine weather.

Have you ever thought about buying either a new or used gas powered moped or scooter? Now don't laugh the idea off straightaway, out of hand, have a think about this first, before throwing the idea away. We are talking about your precious finances here after all.

Modern mopeds and scooters today have come along a very long way in recent years. Not only are they very reliable, they're stylish too and most of them return absolutely astonishing miles per gallon, you will literally be blown away when you realize just how much money you could be saving per month.

Many mopeds and scooters are very nippy, achieving really quite sensible turns of speed, they're excellent modes of transport in heavily congested areas, dodging all the traffic jams and hold ups, lots of them have good carrying capacity with room to spare for your shopping or small parcels, boxes etc. For simply going to friends, they are absolutely idea and never again will you be stuck for trying to find a parking place very close to where you need to be.

It may well be that you still want to make a style statement and you feel that the design of many modern mopeds and scooters lacks some imagination, but that shouldn't stop you either. If this applies to you, have a think about buying a retro Vespa or a Lambretta or similar. There's no reason why you shouldn't still be able to look cool touring around town or city on your new mode of transport.

The best thing of all about these machines though is the sheer very high number of miles per gallon that you will be able to get from them. If you are worried about these escalating high prices for gas and you cannot see any light on the horizon any time soon, have a good think about it and I think you'll soon come to your senses, realizing just what a great option this could give you in terms of saving some serious amounts of cash. Notice that I said 'option'. No one is saying to you to give up altogether your automobile, that would be just plain silly, but for certain journeys, a moped or scooter could just be the answer to your prayers.

Isn't it about time you started to think more carefully about all your options to save money to spend on more important things like keeping your mortgage payments going? Buying a moped or scooter might just be your best option.
